The best places to get coffee on campus at UoN

Let’s be honest to ourselves, we all love a nice coffee shop a.k.a “revision spot” don’t we. It’s the ideal situation, a nice coffee and your laptop. We all look chic and sophisticated while we sip our latte and write our notes on romantic poetry. Did I mention the instagram to surely follow? We are all guilty of taking that perfect shot, coffee cup lined up perfectly with your laptop and notes. So, as exam season fast approaches, I have to decided to offer you my best three coffee spots on campus to try and keep those exam blues at bay.

1. Portland Coffee Co

This is undoubtedly, in my opinion, the BEST coffee place on campus. It wins for various reasons. Firstly, the interior. You have to go to know what I am on about. Think fairy lights, not tacky of course, mixed with darker shades of green and brown. The chairs are comfy and match the aesthetic as do the big windows at the front which let tonnes of light in to give the shop an all round airy but comfortable atmosphere. Secondly, the food they have to offer. Not only are the coffees and smoothies all incredible, but the brownies are something to die for. They offer Beeston brownie Co’s brownies and they are honestly out of this world: not too dense but just cheewy enough. Thirdly, it’s in a fab, central location: the SU. It’s not too far from the library and the science buildings and is a stones throw away from Trent. Overall, it’s an ideal place to show off to friends and family alike when they come and visit you at Uni.

2. Trent Cafe

Trent cafe comes in at second on my ratings. This is for various reasons, like Portland, it is an easy location: The Trent building, in case you hadn’t guessed by the name… There are plenty of seats, desks and booths which make it an ideal location to revise in, should you want to. The main thing that Trent boasts is the views of the lake. In summer, this is brilliant. There is plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the greenery and the lake. This makes your coffee shop experience fab come the summer months. Want to sit outside, tan yourself and revise? Trent Cafe is the place to be.

3. The Clubhouse @ David Ross Sports Village

The Clubhouse, located in DRSV, comes in at third place for the sporty among you. Had a heavy leg day or nailed that spin class and fancy a bit of a chill and a decent coffee (that’s right, it’s actually a Starbucks…)? The Clubhouse is the place to go. It goes without saying that the coffee and food is great but the space they have is fab too. There are big long benches which are perfect for revising on but they also have comfier seats if you just fancy a chill. For the sporty among you, not only does its location mean you don’t have to go far to grab a coffee but it also sells protein shakes and bars too. This means you don’t have to go home to get your protein, it’s there at your finger tips. It’s all about gains, right?

With exam season creeping, quite alarmingly fast, upon us, I wish you the best of luck with upcoming assessments and also hope you take time to wind down and maybe grab a coffee?
