Best annual events in Nottingham

Goose Fair Nottingham

Nottingham is a really lively city, with so many events throughout the year. As a student, these are a great way to get to know the city, and also to get out of the ‘Uni Bubble’ for a little while. As a seasoned uni of Notts student, I went to my fair share of events throughout the years, sometimes more than once. Here are three (all in first semester) that are unmissable, and why I think they are so great.

Goose Fair

Goose Fair, Nottingham

Goose Fair is basically a massive funfair that takes place in the Forest Recreation Ground every year in early October. It has loads of really great rides, as well as food stalls and games. It’s a good place for first years to go with their new friends/flatmates, as it happens pretty early in term. Forest Recreation Ground is in relatively easy walking distance of Lenton, and can be reached by tram from Uni Park. Goose Fair runs for 4 or 5 days so there’s really no excuse not to go!

Bonfire Night

Bonfire Night

Also held at Forest Recreation Ground, the bonfire night celebrations in Notts are too good to miss. As well as the obvious firework display, there’s also a huge bonfire, loads of food stalls and fairground rides. It’s another great place to go with your friends and to take a break from your uni work!

Christmas Markets

Christmas Markets

Nottingham’s Christmas Markets are definitely one of my highlights of the year. They run from late November to New Years, and there is always something new to explore. They take up the whole of Old Market Square, and they’re great. There are a variety of stalls selling gifts, food and drink. There’s also a pop-up bar, as well as an ice rink in the centre of the Square. The markets are easily one of the best events Nottingham has to offer.
