Why Nottingham is the best city for students

Choosing a university is more than just what course you will be studying it’s also about where you will be living for at least the next 3-4 years of your life. Your time at university will be made all the better if you fall in love with the city too. Here’s a few reasons why Nottingham is the best city for students! (Of course I’m a little biased…)

You will never get bored – even when you’re down to your last 20p

Whether you’re interested in clubbing, food, sport or the arts, Nottingham has it all. More often than not at a discounted price! Your student card is your new best friend, your key to balancing a fulfilling social life on a budget. The city itself is designed with you (and the other 60,000 students it homes) in mind. Cheap, reliable transport connects you directly to places like Hockley where you’ll find vintage clothing stores, secret cocktail bars and trendy music venues like Bodega. If cobbled streets and secret allies aren’t really your thing there’s always Forest Recreational Ground or Wollaton Park to discover. Taking a walk around these areas can really help you let off some steam around exam time.

UoN and NTU

With two major universities occupying the city, there is nothing better to do than revel in some friendly competition. Whether you’re donning green & gold or pink & navy, varsity is the student sporting event of the summer. This also means Nottingham has a great student buzz. You’ll be surrounded by so many like minded people it’s almost impossible not to find a great group of friends. It’s the same for jobs! Employers know that Nottingham has a huge student population so you’ll find plenty of opportunities for internships, post grad placements and part time work.

“Win or lose we’re on the booze”

Well there’s no better city than Nottingham for student nightlife. All a short walk from the city centre you’ll find Rock City, Rescue Rooms, Pryzm and Ocean to cater for all your clubbing needs. Oh, and did I mention that Tim Martin studied at The University of Nottingham, the founder of Wetherspoons. I doubt any student across the country can boast a greater claim to fame. Have something to celebrate? You’ll be swamped by choices. So if you’re a fan of pints, pitchers and 2-4-1 jager bombs get yourself to Notts.

For me, Nottingham has become a second home (as much as I wouldn’t admit that to my mum). Whatever university you choose make sure to check out what the city has to offer you too!
