The best things I did at Uni that you should try

So, third year has started for me. I’m getting back into my routine (thank god!) and have started to get involved in all the things that I was doing last year. Sport, societies, etc… For those of you starting University this year, I wanted to give my advice on the best two things I have done at University. I’m not saying you have to do the same as me. But I’m hoping that this will inspire you to go out there and see what University can offer you.

Joined an IMS team

In my first year I joined my hall IMS hockey club and it’s honestly been the best thing I’ve done at University. IMS is a super chill and friendly league that aims to improve your skills while showing you the social side of sport. This means that it’s available to anyone of any ability, it’s super inclusive and friendly. I’ve met some of my closest friends through IMS and the socials that come along with this.

Worked for the SU

At the end of first year, I took a job as a student receptionist at the SU. This is hands down one of the best things I’ve done at Uni for numerous reasons. Firstly, the money (as students, we all love a big of cash, right?). Secondly, the friends I’ve made while working there are some of the funniest people I’ve ever met. Thirdly, it’s given me a huge perspective about the SU and the opportunities it can offer. Without my SU job I wouldn’t have met the members of the staff who have told me about volunteering, the education network, and welfare events that have really made my Uni experience so far amazing…

These are the best two things I did at Uni – but there’s so many more! From internships and part time jobs, to sports, to going out and having fun, there’s definitely something for everyone.
