Why Campus Universities are Elite

Universities often fall into two very simple categories; City or Campus. In Nottingham we’re lucky enough to have one of each. Nottingham Trent, the resident city uni and The University of Nottingham situated a little out of town on a campus. Here’s a few reasons why I think campus unis are the best!

Trees, lakes, green spaces

Campus universities are often located away from the city centre owing to more of a ‘countryside’ feel. You’ll be away from the mad city rush, ring roads and hoards of people. Instead you’re surrounded by trees, lakes and copious amounts of green spaces. Feeling stressed? Want life to slow down a little? Just stepping outside for a short walk around campus could make things a little better. Spending a little time taking in the beautiful scenery on campus is a luxury those at city unis don’t have – or at least not on their doorstep.

Better for your wallet

You’ve heard it before but I’ll say it again, student living is expensive! Choosing a campus uni could save you a few pennies. You might have to get taxis home after a night out but living outside the city centre is overall cheaper. Accommodation is one of the biggest student expenditures. In the city you’re likely to pay more rent per month for small, grotty single bed apartment above a department store than a whole house on campus. You’ll also find things like gym memberships, cinema prices and takeaways are all markedly lower in price than their city counterparts. What’s not to like!?

Everything you need is on your doorstop

For the lazy among us, campus unis are your best friend. Everything is within walking distance. Lecture at 9am? No worries, you could roll out of bed at 8:30 and still make it – maybe with time to spare! You’ll find shops, banks, maybe even a hair dressers right on campus. Often these are in partnership with or run by the student union, meaning prices are bound to be student friendly too.

Campus unis have some great perks, many of them making your life at university more convenient and relaxing. They have their cons too. Choosing between a campus and a city uni is all down to personal preference. Remember whatever you find suits you will be the best for you, don’t be swayed by those around you. Either way, city or campus, you’ll be part of a great community and no doubt love every second.
