Enjoying Uni down time without drinking

For a lot of us going out and drinking is a huge part of our university experience. Your downtime probably revolves around cheap pints at the ‘sheaves and vodka lem’s at Ocean. But what about our peers that enjoy university without drinking? There’s no rule that says you have to drink, and you definitely shouldn’t feel pressured to just because your friends are. Here’s a few things you could swap out for yet another night out on the town…

Book a badminton court at David Ross

There’s nothing like a bit of sporting competition so grab your housemates and head to David Ross. You can book badminton slots for free with a gym membership – or for less than the cost of a pint without! Whether you’re playing to relieve some stress or just try something new you’re bound to have a laugh. Before you know it you’ll be there every week and maybe even ITCHING to join the badminton society? Something to think about for sure since being part of a sports society is another great way to spend your time at UoN.

Host a board games night

Invite some of your friends over for a cosy night of board games. It’s something you’ll have fond memories of doing as a child but have somehow forgotten about. It’s always fun to find out the classics like Monopoly or Uno. If you don’t have any board game with you at uni don’t stress because you can almost always find them knocking about in charity shops.

Go to the cinema

Nottingham has a cinema to suit any occasion! If you’re feeling nostalgic head to Savoy in Lenton where you’ll find classic red velvet seats and (very) pocket friendly prices. Want a premium experience? Showcase de lux in Dunkirk offers imax screenings and laid back leather seating. If you’re closer to town you could even try Cineworld at Cornerhouse which is home to a whole host of other entertainment spots. So grab some popcorn, a coke and enjoy all the new releases.

Whether you’ve already chosen not to drink at university or it’s something you want to give a go (did somebody say detox!?) this list of things to do around Nottingham should keep you inspired.
